Hydro-Statics & Water Fountains: The Fundamentals

Hydro-Statics & Water Fountains: The Fundamentals All liquids in a state of equilibrium exert force on the materials it comes in contact with.Hydro-Statics & Water Fountains: Fundamentals 0861675378987484.jpg There are two types of force, hydrostatic energies and external forces. The force applied by the liquid against a level wall is identical at each and every point where it makes contact with the wall. Liquid in equilibrium will employ vertical pressure at every point of an object’s exterior when that object is fully submerged in the liquid. These vertical forces are buoyancy, and the concept on its own is more fully defined by Archimedes’principle. Generally, hydrostatic pressure on a point of liquid is a product of the hydrostatic force applied on it. The containers that make up a city’s fountains, wells, and its water supply system are applications of these techniques.

The History of Outdoor Fountains

History Outdoor Fountains 33778193.jpg The History of Outdoor Fountains The translation of hundreds of classical Greek texts into Latin was commissioned by the scholarly Pope Nicholas V who ruled the Church in Rome from 1397 until 1455. He undertook the embellishment of Rome to turn it into the worthy capital of the Christian world. At the behest of the Pope, the Aqua Vergine, a ruined aqueduct which had transported clean drinking water into Rome from eight miles away, was restored starting in 1453. Building a mostra, a grandiose commemorative fountain built by ancient Romans to memorialize the entry point of an aqueduct, was a custom revived by Nicholas V. The architect Leon Battista Alberti was commissioned by the Pope to construct a wall fountain where we now see the Trevi Fountain. Modifications and extensions, included in the restored aqueduct, eventually provided the Trevi Fountain and the well-known baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona with the necessary water supply.
